I hope everyone is enjoying their Summer! There are so many Community Events in the summertime and I'd love to know what events you participate in or contribute to? I recently ran in the High Heel-A-Thon, here in NYC, with the Regis and Kelly Show to benefit the March of Dimes. Now I know running in 4 inch stilettos might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it was fun and for a good cause, and what can I say? I love anything fun that involves my community! My new profile picture is from the event. As you can see, I took the 150 yard dash very seriously with full head/wrist sweatbands as well as elbow pads!
One of my clients is an antique boutique in a small town. She's gathered some other retail shops, a spa, a restaurant, and the community art center together to create an event to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. They are calling the event 'Pink Pumpkins for the Cure', and every participating shop has a window display of merchandise with pink pumpkins to draw attention to the event.
To rent a space, vendors make a donation to the SUsan G. Komen Foundation. Admission to buyers (the public) is free with donation, as well. For four hours on a Saturday, the spaces in the art center will be filld with bargains, Holiday previews, music, food, and wine tastings.
There are three other commmunity events being held that weekend - she checked before she scheduled this. She's piggybacking this event on the pumpkin patches, farm tours, and craft faires that are already heavily advertised....making it cost-effective and assuring a high turnout. She'll be handing out flyers to all of those events at her Pink Pumpkin soiree, as well - reciprocity works!
