You know the saying let there be light. To many retailers do not invest enough money on lighting : their store and the products they sell.

Lots of studies have been done to check the effectiveness of lighting  in retail. It continues to be seen as a very important  element. I have been involved in 100s of lighting designs for my retail clients. I know  the positive  impact lighting can have on sales.  Good lighting, appropriately placed helps you sell product.

Good Retail Store Lighting is  your Silent Sales Person

Here are the questions I asked myself during the Retail Makeover  at Debbie's store:

Q: Does  the  existing lighting system provide adequate light to all corners of the store?

A: Debbie told me that what was in the store the day of the Retail Makeover was an upgrade to what was in the store when she signed the lease. To provide adequate lighting to all corners she has been adding halogen light track to her store lighting design  a bit at a time.

Q: Are the lights used to create focal points with in the store?

A: This was an area that need attention. But before focal point lighting can be installed  - a new floor plan has to be design with focal displays
in each area or department.

Q: Do the display fixtures have light  included and each shelf lit up?

A:  No , this was an area  that needed  an upgrade. But it would be a long while before any action would be taken.  This would cost big dollars.

 Lighting Design Guidelines:

1. Your ceiling halogen light tracks should be installed 3 Ft from the object you want to light.

2. You need  ceiling tracks - 3 feet in front of any fixtures to wash  your wall areas.

3. Shelf lighting - accomplish  this by  budgeting for one halogen bulb per shelf per Ft of celling track.

4. Focal lighting. Dedicated ceiling  tracks should be installed 3 feet in front of a feature or focal display.

5. Why Track lighting ? I like using track lighting. It's easy and economical to use.

6. Halogen bulbs. Use 50 w bulbs to start and see what effect you get.

7.  What colour of light? You want all your lighting to  give off a white light. Product looks it's nature colour in white light.

A promise to you.  In  future blogs I will share with you the latest in e-co friendly lighting. We have to start thinking about going green in this area.

As always thanks for checking in this week. Now go  and see what upgrades you need  to make to your store lighting design.   Not sure please contact me.

Next week  in part 2 , I have a look at Debbie's - Front Window Display Lighting.   You won't want to miss what I have to share with you -  we need to see what it will take to light up the eyes into her store.

I hope you enjoyed our Retail Makeover this week.   Don't forget to work along with us .

Let me know how you are doing or if you have any questions.

Have a great week.
