Holiday season for independent retailers can be quite stressful. With employees leaving early, trying to take some vacation, looking to find time to spend with family and friends, attending all those holiday parties, all the while ensuring that your shop is stocked with the latest and greatest stocking stuffers is no easy task!
With all that has to get done: preparing for inventories, taxes, making time for family events, it’s no secret that many of us feel overwhelmed around the Holidays. To Enjoy the Season More Fully, try these Tips on Avoiding Holiday Stress: - Try to get as much done as you can early in the holiday season. Encourage your staff to do the same, God knows you will a-l-l appreciate it in the long run. - Maintain a positive attitude. Try not to worry about things you cannot control. - Keep up with your exercise regimen. A few extra minutes of exercise a day can benefit your overall health and state of mind. - Eat Healthy. Limit the amount of fat and sugar you eat. - Practice relaxation techniques – yoga and tai chi are always good for this. - Avoid caffeine. - Rest. Easier said than done, but try to get eight hours of sleep each night. - Get a massage. Get rid of those kinks, both mental and physical.
Balancing the demands of the shop, your own holiday shopping, parties, family obligations may all contribute to feelings of being overwhelmed and increased stress, but you don’t have to let it get to you.
