Staying Healthy During the Summer Months

We all know that our nutritional habits, fitness routines and sleeping patterns are directly connected to our overall health.  But, it’s not that easy to get a fitness routine into a busy day of retailing.  Knowing that time is the one thing we are all running short on, I’ve been working on coming up with some key ideas to incorporate into my daily routine to keep me feeling healthy and strong, especially during the busy summer months as we gear up for the Summer Markets!

Key Ideas that work, (tried and tested by yours truly):

The Summer season comes complete with sticky, hot and humid days that can affect us more than we think.  Be sure to drink plenty of water in the summer, as it is an essential part of staying healthy.  Drinking eight 8 oz glasses of water a day will generally do the trick.   If you can’t seem to stomach all that water, try incorporating more fruits and veggies in your diet, as they tend to contain a good deal of water and can help you on the road to better health and hydration.

For all those exploring vegan diets, be sure and get your daily 15 minutes of suntime, as you’re shying away from dairy products, you still need to ensure you are getting adequate Vitamin D.

This is the season to get out there and participate in more outdoor activities. It’s a great time to get out there and try your hand at something new – i.e., try an outdoor yoga class, depending on where you live, there are several options to choose from.  Even better, if you are looking for a yoga resort for a quick rejuvenation getaway, check out some yoga retreats here.

If yoga is not your thing, perhaps you want to sign up for outdoor swing dance classes, if you’re located in the San Francisco area, be sure and check out Lindy in the Park.  Learn the Lindy, while getting some exercise, as well as getting in a laugh or two.  Other options to investigate: swimming at your community outdoor pool, taking a brisk walk in the park, finding out about your town’s local community volleyball team.

Wear full sleeve shirts, hats and be sure to use sunblock when you are going out in the sun. Wearing light colored and loose clothing, along with wearing sunglasses is vital protection from sun rays.

Although it’s hard to get started sometimes, exercise and sports activities keep our minds fresh and stress- free.  So grab a coworker, friend, spouse or child and get out there and start having fun!

See you at the Summer Markets.

Wishing you the best of health and success!  Until next time...

Best,

Anj
