BarCamp Experience…yes BarCamp

Hi Everyone,

No, not Band Camp, BarCamp! I recently attended a Social Media BarCamp in NYC and learned a LOT that I can not wait to start implementing here on the GHC!

First off, let me define the term BarCamp. A BarCamp is "an international network of user generated conferences - open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants - often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats."

Now, back to the fun part! At this social media Barcamp we discussed everything from using web 2.0 applications like twitter and widgets and wikis to elevate our user experience and connect closer to our communities to my personal favorite presentation of the day - "Making Love to Your Customers"! This event was filled with some of the best minds in social media, social networking, and web 2.0 applications that the ideas for GHC just kept flowing in!

We are working on updating our site with many new features in the coming months and I am definitely looking to add some of the things I learned here. For starters, I'd love to hear from you guys, (our GHC users), what new applications you would be interested in learning and or using on our site. I have listed below the following apps that I think would be fun for everyone on the site and I'd love to hear from everyone their thoughts on the following:

1) Twitter - www.Twitter.com
2) Any Widgets here that you'd like to see on GHC - http://www.widgetbox.com/
3) RSS Feeds of your favorite Bloggers
4) Flickr App to store and share photos - http://www.flickr.com
5) What are all these things???

So, I will leave everyone with a picture from the event. Here is one snapped of myself and the founder of Mashable.com and this event, Pete Cashmore. Looking forward to everyone's thoughts on the future of GHC's Community!

Happy Blogging,

Jessica
